Ardingly Show Jumping at Easter

Southdown Hunt East Pony Club – Team and Individual Show Jumping

South of England Showground – 30^th & 31^st March 2013

Following the disappointment of having to postpone this event in January due to heavy snow and ice, Southdown Hunt East branch of the Pony Club held their first event of the season at Ardingly showground over the Easter weekend.

The event was run over two days and 13 branches produced over 420 rounds of highly competitive jumping.

Younger members took part on Saturday in the mini mini and mini individual scurry and team classes as well as the popular Top Score.

The home team of SDHE “Green” won the mini team class with some super performances from Maddie Aloof riding Bailey, Matthew Perry riding Cisco, Jasmine Pearce riding Hilton and Jody Watson riding Scooby.

Rebecca Harvey riding Chammi took a well deserved 6^th place in the mini mini individual scurry with Flo Evans Thomas riding Jazz and Hazel Perry riding Harvey coming 2^nd & 3^rd in the mini individual scurry.

The Top Score saw some very competitive riding and was won by Lucy Pearce riding Mo Boy for Mid Surrey.  SDHE members Vicky Henderson riding Amy came 3^rd and Maddie Aloof riding Bailey came 5^th.

Sunday saw the small novice, novice and intermediate individual and team classes ending with a very popular puissance.

In the small novice, the SDHE team came 4^th represented by Katie Beard riding Paddington Bear, Jason Watson riding Scooby, Kezzie Fish riding Star and Rosanna Curtis riding Martin.

The home team was again victorious in the novice with the “Blue” team of Beth Giddings riding Perfect Pete, Emma Robbins riding Chalky, Jessica Copsey riding Evie and Tara Keosherigan riding Jester taking 1^st place after a nail biting jump off.  The “Red” team came 3^rd and consisted of Ben Berill riding Ready Eddie Go, Chloe Fry riding Del and Hazel Perry riding Darcy.

Tara and Jester also jumped a splendid fast clear to win the novice individual scurry.

In the intermediate the branch was placed 4^th with the team of Lara Curtis riding Ludo, Sophie Duffield riding Amber and Millie Forman riding Aimee’s Art,

The climax of the day was the puissance run over 5 rounds, with 26 riders jumping over the wall at the starting height of 2’9.  This produced some excellent jumping with 1^st place being shared by Helena Gurdin riding Ultimate Flying Dutchman for Cobham and Annabel Murphy riding Black Jack Van Nova for Crawley & Horsham South jumping the wall at 4’2.  Lara Curtis riding Ludo came joint 3^rd for SDHE jumping 3’11.

Helena Gurdin also took 1^st and 3^rd places in the intermediate individual and was a member of the winning Cobham intermediate team, so a fantastic day for Helena.

The next event held by Southdown Hunt East will be the Spring Hunter Trials on 19^th May to be held at Wivelsden Farm, followed by the Open Show at the same venue on 1^st June.  Details of these and other events and cross country schooling can be found on their website: http:/branches.pcuk.org/southdowneast
