I am delighted to announce that the branch will be holding an additional Mini Horse Trial event on Sunday 30th September at Wivelsden Farm. Click here to download a schedule and entry form. This event is specially aimed at novices and beginners of all ages! This is the brainchild of our Open Eventing Team (Hazel, [...] You don’t need me to explain that he summer so far has been something of a washout! Unlike the run up to the previous ODE where we ran very successfully despite 15mm of rain overnight, this time the rain had been persistent over the preceding few days to the pint where the ground had become waterlogged. The DC of the East Sussex Branch was so impressed with the efficiency with which Dr. Lionel Ripley kept track of the cross country times at one of our events last summer she asked [...] To anyone left wondering ‘why?’ after the weather on Sunday was near perfect the background is deceptively simple: we had to set a deadline for making a final decision of 9am Friday morning. At that time the Met Office were still forecasting consistent rain, heavy at times, from 10pm Saturday night to 10am Sunday morning. [...] I am pleased to announce that the Branch Committee recently decided to appoint Stuart Fellingham as an additional member. Stuart will take responsibility for coordinating fund raising and sponsorship. This is becoming an increasingly important aspect of managing the branch and I’m sure everyone will support him in his new role. Stuart is, of course, an ex-member. [...] The Events Committee has now finalized the key dates for our 2012 programme. While we have followed a similar pattern to last year we do look as carefully as possible at other events (yes, including the Olympics!!) to try and avoid clashes. However, the summer is a very busy time for the local equine community [...] I am delighted to be able to announce the Laker-Russell bursary. This is an exciting new award to be made at Senior Camp and our thanks go to Hannah Roddis for promoting it and arranging the funding.
