Area Eventing

Louise Lewis has kindly submitted the following report:

TWO SOUTHDOWN EAST PC MEMBERS OFF TO EVENTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Southdown East eventers have been out competing throughout the summer at different levels working towards the Area 11 competition qualifier which was held recently at Pulborough.  For the first time for many years we had an Open team competing.  Consisting of Hazel Perry, Amy Dunn and Lizzie Tillard they did the PC proud by coming 3rd of 6 as a team.  Sadly only the winning team qualifies for the champs but it was a great first attempt.  Lizzie finished 6th in her section (only the winner qualifies though it passes down the line if the winner doesn’t want to go) with Hazel just behind in 7th in the same section and Amy finished 9th in her section.  Excitingly though a few days after the Area qualifier Lizzie was contacted to say a place at the championships was up for grabs and did she want it.  So Lizzie is off to the champs this weekend and we’ll report and how she gets on when she’s back.

In addition to the Open team there were two Level 3 Novice eventing teams competing at the Area and one of those 8 has also qualified for the championships.  Alexandra Irwin on Percy won the Level 3 Area Novice eventing qualifier at their first attempt and are heading to the Novice championships in Cheshire at the end of August.  3rd after the dressage they jumped double clear inside the time to get their win leaving others to make mistakes.  The wonderful Percy now has a clean sweep of Area wins, having previously won the Area Novice SJ and the Area Novice Dressage with previous owner Ceski Goddard.  More news on Alexandra at the end of the month.
